George is Myrtle’s husband, he’s an exhausted owner of a run-down garage at the edge of the valley of ashes. George loves and idealises Myrtle and is devastated by her affair with Tom as he was innocently unaware and naïve. George is consumed with grief when Myrtle is killed. After her death, the magnitude of his grief drives Wilson to murder Jay Gatsby before committing suicide himself. George is mirrors Gatsby in that both are dreamers and both are ruined by their unrequited love for women who love Tom.
