Chapter 15
Francis then goes to the convent to visit the nuns. He asks for Sister Mathilda, his and Nicole’s 7th grade teacher, in the hopes that she knows where Nicole has gone. When Sister Mathilda arrives, Francis removes his cap and introduces himself. He questions her about Nicole, worried she has become a nun, but the sister relieves him by informing that she simply left with her family to return to Albany.
Mathilda then reveals that Nicole seemed distraught on her visit to the convent but she doesn’t know why. This shows Francis that she never confided in anyone else about her trauma. The sister then gives Francis her address, thinking it might be good for her to see an old friend. She then offers hopes that his wounds will heal soon and Francis quickly responds that he will see Dr. Abrams for surgery, causing him to think whether it is wrong to lie to a nun.
