Kate is the mother figure for the Mundy family, she’s both the oldest and the strictest. She is thought to have a softer side as is narrated by Michael. She choses to stick to the teachings of the Catholic church and likes being a school teacher . She loses her job as a result of low student numbers, which she questions if this is true or not.  She disapproves of what she sees as the Pagan festival of Lughnasa.
