-The Sign of Four-

Miss Mary Morstan

The client of Sherlock who spins the narrative into being, and also the love interest of Watson. She is shown as relatively vague, lacking real initiative, but her heart is noticeably pure, caring little, if at all, for the prospects of wealth and more for the health and safety of others. It is her connection to her father and therefore Major Sholto that is of importance.

“She was a blonde young lady, small, dainty, well gloved, and dressed in the most perfect taste”

“The treasure is lost” said Miss Morstan calmly”

“You are certainly a model client. You have the correct intuition”

Johnathan Small –

“…It does seem a queer thing to me, that I who have a fair claim to half a million of money should spend the first half of my life building a breakwater in the Andamans, and am like to spend the other half digging drains at Dartmoor.

“It is my treasure; and if I can’t have the loot I’ll take darned good care that no one else does”

“there were two hundred thousand black devils let loose, and the country was a perfect hell.”
