Paddy Clarke
The young boy in a family that once was happy, different from his peers because of his natural interest in academic studies and hopeful to solve his domestic woes. His position as being a member of Kevin’s gang sees him perform acts that are against his true self and inevitably get him hurt and punished.
His ability to excel in school alienates him from the friends he once had and his home life crumbles quickly. He cannot keep up with the way in which his life is deteriorating and the stresses that are forced upon him by his mother’s deteriorating mental state, his father’s exit, his brother’s ambivalent denial, and his two sisters’ youth.
