Stanley is around thirty years old and a former soldier who fought in World War II. He now works as an auto-parts salesman and is the husband of Stella, friend of Steve , Mitch and Pablo. With his Polish ancestry, he represents the new, heterogeneous America. He has no patience for Blanche and the illusions she cherishes. He is a controlling and violent man, who demands subservience from his wife in the belief that his authority is threatened by Blanche’s arrival.
He beats Stella and rapes Blanche, and crucially doesn’t allow Blanche’s past to go under the radar of the other characters. This is shown when he repeatedly interferes with the relationship of Mitch and Blanche. He doesn’t take well to Blanche looking down on him with Stanley being a family man and Blanche an outcast from society.
