-War of The Worlds-

Book 2 Chapter 8 Dead London

The narrator arrives in London and notes the destruction, with dead bodies strewn all over the place and a layer of black dust covering almost everything. He also notes, however, that some parts are still healthy looking. Suddenly, he hears a strange noise, not unlike a howl, and decides to investigate, forced to travel towards Regent’s Park.

He comes across a strange sight, a motionless Martian vehicle, lying down. He witnesses multiple dead Martian bodies and keeps travelling until he finds the core of Martian activity, where even more alien bodies lie, being eaten by dogs and birds.

War of The Worlds

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man’s and yet as mortal as his own… Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

H.G Wells (1898)
