Chapter 13 - How I Fell in With Curate
The narrator continues on, plodding ever farther from Horsell Common, realising that another cylinder arrives every day. The first crash site is defended by only one tripod now, with the rest working, hidden by opaque green smoke. There is more artillery being deployed around and scouts are now being used.
Our narrator then comes across a minister who is preaching about the apocalypse, which makes the narrator inform him of the alien’s weaknesses and that, if they want to be safe, they need to both move towards London.

War of The Worlds
No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man’s and yet as mortal as his own… Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.
H.G Wells (1898)
